Motorcycle Blogger International Awards for
2008
MBIweb.org
The
MBI annual awards for the best motorcycle related products,
people and organizations has kicked into first gear. I'm a
charter member of MBI, a group of 142 Motorcycle Bloggers and
News sites. The Riders Choice Star Awards are now in their 3rd
year and we have the motorcycle manufacturing press watching
us.
What makes this yearly award more interesting to me than
others is that we non-professional riders and writers decide who
to nominate, we will vote for the nominees, we will determine the
winners. No proxies, no electoral college, just us.
Do you have a favorite motorcycle, do you lust after one you
can't afford or don't have room in your garage for, do you admire
someone who has done a lot for the motorcycle world? We've added
an Earth Friendly motorcycle category so that people who are
interested in motorcyles from a Save the Earth perspective don't
have to argue over merit with the people who want power, oil be
damned. We couldn't call it the "Green Motorcyle" category,
everyone would think we meant Kawasaki.
 |
Now's your chance to say what you like and don't like. Do you
need a toaster that burns the KTM logo onto your bread? It is a
candiate for the Fallen Star award in the "What were they
thinking?!" category. No joke.

|
Nominations are open until February 10th. Anyone can nominate.
.
Click the 2008 awards and nominate in any of the 9 MBI Riders
Choice Star Award and 4 MBI Riders Choice Fallen Star categories.
You can nominate as many as you want, there's no limit. Keep in
mind that some categories are for 2007 only, that is, "Best New
Motorcycle for 2007" means only new motorcycles that went on sale
during 2007 are eligible. Even if the motorcycle was announced
during 2007, if the motorcycle was not on sale
internationally, it's not eligible.
There are a bunch of nominations already and they make
interesting reading. Head over to MBI and nominate. If your favorite product
is not present in the final list and you didn't nominate it, you
don't get to complain. Next month we'll vote for the final
candidates. As this year's nomination process administrator, I
encourage you to to encourage others to add their nominations -
it would be nice to see a wide range of perspectives
represented.

Long-time reader Paul Hollerbach sent me this:
- "...the so-called Swiss Army Knife of motorcycles, the
sport-utilitarian, and in this case, the good Samaritan, coming
to the aid of the highly-touted, mechanically superior BMW...but,
hey, what're friends for?"

Thank you, Paul!

Great nominations are coming in for the MBI Star Awards
category, "Women Riders Booster of the Year". The text of these
nominations is what was submitted to the MBI
nominations site. This is a snapshot; we are still collecting
nominees - don't be shy. We'll vote on the short list in a week
or two.

| "Biker Betty" Betty
maintains a great blog focusing on issues of interest to women
riders.

|
| Cecilie Hoffman Cecilie has
one of the oldest blogs on the net. Her
inspirational story begins when she first started riding,
proceeds through a couple seasons at the track to her current
first steps in adventure riding. If she can do it, you can too.
[I rejected two nominations for me/my blog because my role
in this year's awards looks like a clear conflict of interest.
However, Mike Werner, founder of MBI, ruled that the nomination
is okay. Thank you to the people who nominated me.]
